Adobe Document Generation API produces Word and PDF documents by merging structured JSON data into pre-built Word templates — rather than programmatically constructing a document layout field-by-field in code, a business user designs the template in Microsoft Word using simple tag syntax for variable fields, tables, and conditional sections, and the API fills it with data supplied at request time and returns the rendered document. This division of labor (business/design teams own the template, engineering owns the data feed) is the API's main advantage for contract generation, invoices, and reports where the visual layout changes more often than the underlying data logic.
